Local lumberjacks have noticed the sudden an unexplained rise in people getting attacked by Reef Sharks and are willing to pay some low level adventurers to find out what happening.
Aquatic creatures can swim through this fog and breathe it as if it were water. This is manifest as a very dense fog that fills the woods. This coral is a magical tether holding a powerful ocean spirit to the mortal plain, but now, landlocked as it is, the spirit is dying, and his essence is flaring out into his surrounds (the woods). He has brought with him a strange but beautiful piece of coral which he found in a whales belly which sits on his mantle as art. Recently moved into one of the cabins in the forest is a retired whaler. Feel free to just scavenge pieces of this for your actual adventure.
